Business Incentives

Local

As a Dillon Rules state, Idaho municipal authorities have limited opportunities to provide financial incentives for economic development.  However, various Blaine County municipalities have accessed a series of legal mechanisms to work around these restrictions.  The cities of Ketchum and Hailey have both established Urban Renewal Authorities (URAs) which can be used to stimulate private sector investment by providing funding for infrastructure.  The cities of Hailey, Ketchum and Sun Valley have also passed ballot initiatives to levy a Local Options Tax (LOT) on select retail transactions.  LOT receipts are currently being used by these cities to maintain and improve local infrastructure, and financial support both new and existing tourism-focused events and programs may be available upon application to city authorities.  Links to details on these local programs are provided below:

State

Idaho offers a wide variety of programs designed to encourage businesses to relocate to the State.  Specific incentives for reductions in property, sale and income taxes for qualified investors are available, along with other incentives for marketing, export sales, workforce training and technical assistance.  The State of Idaho also periodically offers grant programs for businesses in a wide variety of industry sectors.  Details on all current Idaho programs can be found at the following link below:
