Doug Brown Retiring From SVED

Sun Valley Economic Development President Steve Mills announced today that Doug Brown is leaving SVED after three years to return to the private sector. "I'd like to thank Doug for helping to make our economy stronger and our community a better place", Mills noted, "His efforts to grow membership, secure commercial entitlements, educate on the importance of LOT and other issues, as well as expand SVED's footprint, have put us on a sustainable path for future success."

Asked about what he most enjoyed about working with SVED, Brown replied, "I loved interacting with the business community, the elected officials, and the not for profit leaders.  I am humbled by the experience of getting to know and work with so many concerned citizens who want a better place for the next generation."

"You may recall," Mills said, "that SVED came together with the merger of Sustain Blaine and Wood River Economic Partnership in 2014".
"After ten years in the non-profit economic development field I decided it was time to take a break", Brown said. After some time off, I plan to start a private consulting practice in the Valley."

SVED Executive Director Harry Griffith noted "Doug has been invaluable as a hard-charging, no-nonsense advocate on difficult issues like middle income housing and hotel entitlements."

Brown joined SVED with responsibility for outreach, member development, advocacy, special events, and administration. Mills said the Board is seeking interested candidates to replace Brown.  If you think you have the right skills and are passionate about community economic development, please send a resume and cover letter to SVED Executive Director Harry Griffith at harry@sunvalleyeconomy.org

SVED Sponsors 1st Housing Roundtable
Presented by Eye on Sun Valley

For anyone interested in the valley housing situation, this Housing Roundtable is a must see:

Participants include County Commissioner Larry Schoen, Mayor Nina Jonas, Councilman Michael David, Ketchum Community Development Commission (KCDC) Chairman and Ketchum Mayorial Candidate,  Neil Bradshaw, John Sofro of J
ohnAlan Partners, Michelle Griffith of ARCH, and Doug Brown of SVED.

SVED has advocated for Middle Income Housing solutions for two years.  Our local housing crisis negatively impacts our valley employers and the community at large.  Doing nothing is not an option.  There are changes that can be made to zoning and density that will allow developers to build the housing that we so desperately need.

Please join us in learning about solutions at our September 6th Members Only Meeting.

Did Airbnb Kill the Mountain Town?

"Living the dream has never been easy in the West's most beloved adventure hamlets, where homes are a fortune and good jobs are few. But the rise of online short-term rentals may be the tipping point that causes idyllic outposts like Crested Butte, Colorado, to lose their middle class altogether-and with it, their soul." - Click to Read More
